Frequently asked questions

How much does a Sahara desert tour from Marrakech cost?
Our private 3-day Marrakech to Merzouga desert tour starts from €450 per person and drops as your group grows; the shared group version starts from €180 per person. Longer 4, 5 and 6-day tours range from €550 to €750 per person. Prices include private transport, half board and a night in our desert camp — see each tour page for exact tiers.
Is camel trekking uncomfortable?
Not at the gentle pace we run it. The camels walk slowly, led on foot by an experienced handler, and the sunset ride to camp is only about an hour. If you'd rather not ride, we can drive you to the camp by 4x4 instead — just ask.
What should I wear in the Sahara desert?
Light, breathable layers for warm days, a warm jacket or fleece for cold desert nights, a scarf for sun and blowing sand, closed shoes and sun protection. See our what to wear in Morocco guide.
How cold is the desert at night in Morocco?
It depends on the season. Spring and autumn nights are cool but pleasant; winter nights (December–February) can drop close to freezing, while summer nights are mild. Our desert camp provides plenty of blankets and the tents have proper beds.
Can you swim in the desert in Morocco?
Not in the dunes — but our Hotel Les Roches Merzouga has a swimming pool with views over the Erg Chebbi dunes, so you can cool off before or after a desert excursion.
How many days do you need for a Morocco desert tour?
A minimum of 3 days to properly reach the big Erg Chebbi dunes from Marrakech or Fes and sleep in the desert. Four or five days adds a relaxed rest day and the oases; 6+ days lets you cross one-way between Marrakech and Fes.
Are your tours private or shared?
Both. Private tours are fully flexible — your own vehicle, guide and pace. Shared tours are budget small-group departures (max 17) on a fixed schedule. Each tour page shows which options are available.
What's included in the price?
Private (or shared) air-conditioned transport with fuel and a driver-guide, hotel pickup and drop-off, accommodation (hotel + desert camp), the camel trek, and half board (dinner and breakfast). Lunches, drinks, entrance fees and tips are not included.
Where exactly is your hotel and camp?
Hotel Les Roches Merzouga sits at the foot of the Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga (postal code 52202), Errachidia province, south-east Morocco. Our private luxury desert camp is in the dunes, about an hour by camel from the hotel.
How do I get to Merzouga?
Most travellers arrive on a tour: about 9 hours' drive from Marrakech (usually over 2–3 days) or 7–8 hours from Fes via the Ziz Valley. The nearest airport is Errachidia (ERH). See how to get to Merzouga.
When is the best time to visit the Moroccan Sahara?
Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are ideal, with warm days and cool nights. Winter is quiet with clear stargazing but cold nights; summer is hot at midday. Read our best time to visit guide.
Does the desert camp have private bathrooms?
Yes — our luxury desert camp tents each have a private en-suite bathroom with a flushing toilet and a hot shower. This is genuine glamping, not basic camping. See the luxury camp page.
Can you cater for vegetarian, vegan or halal diets?
Yes — vegetarian, vegan, halal and allergy-aware meals are all easy to arrange. Just tell us your requirements when you book.
Is the tour suitable for children and older travellers?
Yes. The main consideration is the driving time, which we break up with frequent stops. Families and guests in their 70s do our tours comfortably; tell us your group and we'll advise.
Can the tour start or end in a different city?
Often, yes. Many guests travel one-way between Marrakech and Fes, or finish in a different city to match their flights. Tell us your plans and we'll route the tour accordingly.
How do I book and pay?
Send an enquiry through the website or message us on WhatsApp at +212 632 738 291. We confirm availability, take a small deposit to secure your dates, and you pay the balance on arrival — no large pre-payment to a faceless platform.
Is it safe to travel in Morocco and the Sahara?
Yes — Morocco is a well-established, welcoming tourist destination, and the Merzouga desert region is safe and frequently visited. Our local guides know the area intimately.
Do you offer airport transfers?
Yes — we can arrange a private transfer from Errachidia, Fes or Marrakech airports to your hotel or to start your tour. Just ask when you enquire.
What languages do your guides speak?
Our team speaks English, French, Spanish and Arabic, plus Berber. This website is available in English, French, Spanish and Italian.
Can you arrange a honeymoon or special occasion?
Absolutely — we offer a private decorated honeymoon tent with a candlelit dinner, and we're happy to help with anniversaries and proposals. See our desert honeymoon page.
