HomeThings to Do › 3 Nights Camel Trek

If a single night in the dunes only leaves you wanting more, our 3-night camel trek is the real thing — a four-day expedition on foot and by camel deep into the Erg Chebbi Sahara, far past where the day tours turn back. You sleep in three different desert camps, share a night in the tent of a Berber nomad family, and eat picnic lunches under acacia trees between long, quiet stretches of dune. It is our most immersive desert experience, and it starts and ends at our hotel in Merzouga.

Adventure highlights

  • Four days crossing the deep Erg Chebbi dunes by camel and on foot
  • A night with a Berber nomad family in their traditional tent
  • Three different desert camps, each more remote than the last
  • Oasis picnic lunches and long, unhurried desert walks
  • Some of the darkest night skies in Morocco for stargazing

Your 3-night camel trek itinerary

Day 1 — Sunset trek & first desert camp

Your adventure begins at our hotel in Merzouga. In the late afternoon you set off on a 1.5-hour camel trek into the Sahara, stopping on a high dune for sunset and a little sandboarding. You reach the first camp for mint tea, dinner and an evening of Berber music by the fire.

Day 2 — Oasis & a night with a nomad family

After sunrise and breakfast, you trek a couple of hours to a secluded oasis for lunch and rest. In the afternoon you continue to the home of a local Berber nomad family and spend the second night in their tent, sharing stories and authentic home-cooked meals — a genuinely rare cultural experience.

Day 3 — Deep desert & a sky full of stars

You trek 1.5–2 hours deeper into the dunes, pausing for a picnic lunch in the shade. In the late afternoon you reach the third camp in a quiet, remote pocket of the erg. After another sunset, enjoy dinner and a final peaceful night under the Sahara stars.

Day 4 — Sunrise & return to Merzouga

Wake for your last desert sunrise. After breakfast you take a final camel trek back to Merzouga village (a 4x4 return is also available), full of memories from your extended Sahara adventure.
