Morocco's weather varies hugely between the desert, the mountains, the cities and the coast. Here's a month-by-month overview to help you plan, with a focus on the Sahara around Merzouga.

Month by month

December, January, February

Cool across Morocco. Marrakech 18–20°C by day; Sahara days mild (15–20°C) but nights cold, sometimes near 0°C. The Atlas has snow. Great for stargazing and quiet travel.

March, April, May

The sweet spot. Warm, comfortable days everywhere, desert nights cool but pleasant. Ideal for the dunes and the gorges.

June, July, August

Hot — Marrakech and the Sahara regularly above 38–40°C at midday. The coast (Essaouira, Agadir) stays much cooler and is a popular escape.

September, October, November

Heat eases into warm, stable autumn days and cooler nights. Among the best months for a desert tour.
